Vancouver police seek high-risk offender wanted on Canada-wide warrant

Authorities are cautioning the public that a high-risk federal offender is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after he failed to return to his Vancouver halfway house Sunday night.

Authorities are cautioning the public that a high-risk federal offender is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after he failed to return to his Vancouver halfway house Sunday night.

The Vancouver Police Department says Taylin Francis Brent Checkosis, 26, is wanted Canada-wide for breach of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.

Checkosis is serving his first federal sentence of six years, six months and 17 days after being charged for Accessory after the fact for Murder, Assault, and Aggravated Assault with a Weapon.

Upon his departure from his halfway house on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 2:45 p.m., Checkosis announced he was not returning. He has not been seen since.

Checkosis is an Indigenous male, standing 5’10” and weighing 160 lbs. He has black-brown hair with brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, grey athletic pants, black baseball cap, and black shoes, and he was carrying a black backpack.

Anyone who sees Checkosis, or has information about his whereabouts, should call 9-1-1 immediately, warn police.
