Vancouver police are treating the death of 78-year-old John Leslie McIver as a homicide. It is the city’s sixth murder of the year.

Vancouver police announced Thursday that the death of long-time businessman John Leslie McIver is being treated as a homicide.

“I can confirm that a death that we referred to as a suspicious death yesterday is now a homicide,” media relations officer Const. Steve Addison told reporters.

Officers were called to McIver’s Appliance Sales and Service, which is located near Ontario Street and East 69th Avenue, at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday after a family member discovered the 78-year-old inside.

“Mr. McIver had been the owner and operator of McIver’s Appliance Sales and Service for more than 50 years, a long-standing member of the business community and very well known in the community, ” Addison said.

No arrests have been made in the case and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with any information is asked to call investigators at 601-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
