The Westender and its sister publications, The Growler and The Alchemist, have earned another seven awards, bringing the group's total to 16 so far in 2017.

Last month, it was announced that they were nominated for nine BCYCNA honours. The paper’s most recent accolades come courtesy of the Newspapers Canada Great Idea Awards – a division of the CCNA awards that recognizes excellence in newspaper advertising, marketing and innovation across the country.

The Westender editorial and design team took first place for Best Special Section for their 2016 Pride edition, as well as a third place finish for last year’s Craft Beer Week edition. The team was also recognized in the Best Newspaper Marketing and Promotion category for its Best of the City Dining campaign.

Creative manager Tara Rafiq won first and third place honours for Best Print Advertising concept. Meanwhile, The Growler and The Alchemist teams took first and second place for Best Magazine in Canada, respectively.

"It is extremely rewarding to be able to work with such talented teams," said publisher Gail Nugent. “On behalf of all of our publications, I would like to congratulate the staff who have been honoured with awards this year."

The awards, judged based on work produced in 2016, can be credited to Gail Nugent, Rob Mangelsdorf, Kelsey Klassen, Kristyn Anthony, Tara Rafiq, Lucy-kate Armstrong, Stephen Smysnuik and Fiona Morrow.
