West Vancouver police are investigating after a driver crashed through the ticket booth at the BC Ferries terminal in Horseshoe Bay Tuesday afternoon and later died.

According to police, the man had driven up to the booth around 4:30 p.m.

“But then accelerated and ended up striking two parked vehicles that were, luckily, unoccupied at the time,” said Const. Kevin Goodmurphy, West Vancouver police spokesman. “He was rushed to hospital and later succumbed to his condition.”

The RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the B.C. Coroners Service are also now investigating the sudden death.

“It was likely a medical [issue] that caused it. We don’t know 100 per cent yet,” Goodmurphy said.

The man was a resident of the Sunshine Coast. The family has been notified.
