It’s been a great week in fashion with summer really kicking into full swing and couture fashion week happening in Paris. People often assume that you either have to be naturally great at styling or you don’t. Styling isn’t rocket science and you can train yourself to be great at putting together look. Expert stylists often keep a close eye on street style blogs, magazines and look books. Here are some steps to that will take you from amateur to expert:

1. Identify your favorite genre of look (Tie the rest in based on your chosen genre):

Since I mostly identify with a classic and elegant look, my inspirational outlets will often mirror that.

2. Look for inspiration via:

Magazines: For magazine publications, I go with Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar.

Blogs: For blogs, I like Song of Style, The Glamourai, Holts Muse, The Coveteur, The Rue Collective, Paris in Four Months and A Fashion Love Affair.

Websites: For websites, I follow New York Magazine (for an very edgy New York inspired feel), Style.com for the latest coming down the runway, Moda Operandi for a great edit of what’s influential in the fashion world.

Designers: Knowing which designers you like really help to channel your inspiration. My favorite designers include Oscar de la Renta (for an classic American serge of elegance), Valentino (who always remember that it’s all in the details), Joseph Altuzarra (for the next generation of style influencers).

Style muse: We all have one whether it’s a celebrity or a friend you know. Mine is Miroslava Duma.

A great secret to fine tuning your style is that through inspirational photographs, you can re-create, mix and match or tweak the look to something that suits your own personal taste. This also makes shopping on a budget much easier since we can’t always afford what’s in the magazines.

To get you started, here are some stylish inspirations from this week.
