6 looks for 6 events happening in Vancouver

One of my biggest style frustrations through the years has definitely been staring at a full closet and somehow not being able to find anything to wear for an occasion. As much as I like to be organized enough to plan what I’m wearing for the week, I’ve never been that kind of girl. As a solution to my problem, I usually head to Pinterest to check out some style worthy inspiration, take notes what occasion it’s best suited for and find something in my closet that would be the closet match to the look.

Since there’s still a bit of summer left and many more events that you’re probably heading to, I’ve teamed up with the stylist Brenda Longland from the Oakridge style team who also contributes her work to their style website “The Occasion”. I gave Brenda and her team the challenge of styling 6 statement pieces to wear for 6 different events coming up in Vancouver.

Here's what the style team came up with:

The Occasion

TIP:   Whether you choose to upgrade to VIP seating, or simply scope out a free spot on the Grand Lawn, you'll want to arrive with plenty of time to get settled in for the evening's show -- especially since this weekly summer event attracts up to 5,000 people at each showing. Before you head out, consider packing a large, lightweight tote with room to stash sunnies, bug-spray, blankets, and other movie night essentials. And don't forget to bring along a large, cozy sweater to keep you warm when the temperature drops.

The Occasion

TIP: A chic pair of wedge heels is a must-have for any style savvy woman attending a summer garden party. These trendy summer staples -- the comfortable cousin of a sleek stiletto -- offer the calf-enhancing elegance of high heels without the risk of sinking into soil or grass.

The Occasion

TIP: Although there's no 'official' dress code for attending the opera, it's best to avoid under- (or over-) dressing for the occasion. Opt for more formal business, or cocktail attire that you'll be comfortable sitting in for several hours, and keep your cologne, perfume, and scented cosmetics to a minimum in consideration of other patrons.

The Occasion

TIP: Between its mouthwatering menu, luxe seating, and stellar view of downtown Vancouver, Black and Blue's rooftop patio is the perfect backdrop for an extravagant, yet intimate anniversary date night. To truly taken in your surroundings - and show your special someone you're fully focused on him or her - go easy on the alcohol and avoid outside distractions by stashing your cell phone away from the table. Trust us - you'll both be grateful for the one-on-one time.

The Occasion

TIP: Plan ahead to get the most of of your farmers market experience: for the best selection, get a head start on the crowds and arrive within the first hour of the market's opening; for the best deals, consider going later in the day when vendors are more likely to give you a discount to avoid dragging their produce back home.

The Occasion

TIP:  Be sure to bring reusable containers and take back any garbage with you when you leave the festival site. Not able to bring all your equipment back? Leave items that are still in good condition at a donation drop-off point as you make your way out of the festival.
