2015 is all about gender bending when it comes to fashion. At Berlin fashion week, men have been seen dawning sheer black and white shifts. Also, supermodel Cara Delevingne was recently announced as the face of DKNY menswear. It’s not all that surprising considering that women have been introduced to the “boyfriend blazer” and “boyfriend shirt” within the last few years. The idea behind “boyfriend fit clothing” is a more relaxed, oversized fit for women’s clothes.
A particular favorite of mine borrowing from menswear is the suit. Both men and women have worn this classic look and pulled it off with ease. Here’s how.
1. Deconstruct it and wear it as a dress
You can wear this to the office or a night out. A jacket that multitasks is worth the keep.
2. Add some color to it
Just because suits have primarily come in black or gray doesn’t mean you have to stick with it. A vibrant color can bring this look to life.
3. Add a bowtie
Why not go ahead and play with a traditional pairing?
4. Try a high waisted pant to go with your suit
I’m such a huge fan of high waisted pants. It’s comfortable and flattering. What more can you want?
5. The modern uniform suit
Fit of pants for a suit is key. Ditch any ill fitting pants you have and opt for tapered pants which is a modern play on traditional.
6. The effortless suit
Mix textures with your suit jacket. Go for lace up shoes or even leather pants.
7. Add a printed shirt
Adding a printed shirt is an easy way to add a pop of color or print to an otherwise traditional suit.
8. The low cut blazer
While this may not be appropriate for the office, this is a great look for a night out. If you’re feeling bold and sexy, go for it. Just remember to use fashion tape to avoid unwanted slips.
