Paris Fashion Week came to a close a week ago but we’re still inspired by the incredible street style and runway collections from this season. Parisian style has been something that people from all around the world attempt to emulate while some argue that unless you’re from Paris, you’ll never truly embody the essence of it.

Parisian style is alluring for several reasons: it’s effortless, timeless and elegant. Paris women just seem to get it. There are some basic elements to achieving a Parisian chic look:

-Don’t believe in false absolutes like slim fit is for skinny people, black makes you look slimmer and you shouldn’t wear white after labour day.

-Believe in the power of accessories. This can really elevate an outfit.

-Don’t over think what to wear. Parisian style is a pulled together effortless look.

-Class it up: Don’t be afraid to class up something simple like jeans or a plain dress shirt. You can even pair a dress with a denim jacket for contrast.

To get my hands on some Parisian inspired look here in Vancouver, Oliver and Lilly’s is a go to when it comes to a mix of New York and Paris style. This season, be daring and try a pair of jumpsuit. While I must admit that the proportions of jumpsuits can be tricky in terms of fit, they’re a great piece to have in your closet. You can pair it with a blazer during the work day or a sweater for going to brunch on a weekend.

Also for this season, invest in a long jacket (try: Lauren Manoogian’s Felted shawl collar sweater coat) or cape. It’s the perfect finishing touch to any outfit and will withstand the test of time in your closet with the added bonus of comfort.
