A Surrey man nabbed in possession of a “staggering” number of other people’s credit cards, drivers’ licences, passports and banking documents has been arrested and charged with numerous theft and fraud offences following an investigation by North Vancouver RCMP.

Police allege one of the stolen credit cards and identification was used to buy a newer-model BMW, which has since been seized by police as property obtained by fraud.

Police said when a raid was carried out at the 26-year-old man’s home, they discovered blank cheques, USB drives, key fobs and computers, along with an embossing machine used to make fake credit cards.

Also found in his possession were numerous items believed to be stolen, including blank cheques, credit cards, keys, drivers' licences, passports, computers, banking documents, USB drives and key fobs as well as an embossing machine (used in the production of fake credit cards).

Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP, said police began their investigation in early June after receiving numerous reports of mail thefts from apartments and thefts from vehicles in the North Vancouver area. He added as the investigation continued, it became clear that one suspect was likely responsible for the majority of cases.

“We don’t know why he targeted North Van,” De Jong added.

De Jong said an assortment of other property, including stolen mail from addresses across the Lower Mainland, was seized by police who executed the search warrant.

Cody Justin Parent of Surrey - who goes by several other names including Cody Younge, Cody Vieira, Jeffrey James Morgan and Michael Samson – faces several charges including theft and mail theft, and breaking and entering.

He has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
