The City of Burnaby issued another notice reminding residents of a major road closure on Tuesday, June 25.

Willingdon Avenue will be closed between Canada Way and Burke Street in Burnaby from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to accommodate a funeral procession for a firefighter who passed away in the line of duty.

Burnaby Fire Department has organized the procession to honour senior captain Ken Kinney, who died this month of work-related lung cancer. The funeral service at Willingdon Church on Tuesday is expected to be attended by first responders from across Metro Vancouver.

The procession before the 10 a.m. service and recessional after the funeral will travel down Willingdon Avenue.

Between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., there will be no vehicle access in this area of Willingdon. Access across Willingdon at Moscrop Street/Deer Lake Parkway will also be closed.

Pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will be maintained.

The City of Burnaby is alerting residents, businesses and institutions along the route that will be most impacted.

TransLink is organizing detours for bus routes that travel through the area.
