Lane closures coming to this busy Burnaby intersection

The FortisBC project to upgrade its gas lines will severely impact one additional Burnaby intersection in the coming weeks. Work is starting a new location at the corner of Lougheed Highway and Bainbridge.

Parts of Lougheed Highway were previously closed by FortisBC as it replaced its gas line. Now it's proposing building a new gas line in Burnaby.

The FortisBC project to upgrade its gas lines will severely impact one additional Burnaby intersection in the coming weeks.

Work is starting a new location at the corner of Lougheed Highway and Bainbridge.

Lane closures are necessary and will include the following:

  • The intersection of Bainbridge and Lougheed will be closed to north-south traffic.
  • One eastbound and one westbound lane will be kept open on Lougheed Highway.
  • Bainbridge will only be accessible via right-hand turns from Lougheed.

“These closures will give construction crews the space they need to complete work safely, and as quickly as possible,” said a statement. “Businesses will be open and accessible throughout the lane closures.”

The good news is that, as of this weekend, construction will be finished on Broadway between Bainbridge and Duthie avenues, and that section of road will fully reopen to traffic, weather dependent.

Local traffic-only restrictions will remain in effect further east along Broadway between Arden and Underhill avenues.
“We want to thank residents in the area for their patience and understanding while construction was underway,” the statement said. “Our crews will return to the area in August to complete some additional work, and we’ll provide an update before this begins.”
