Updated: Wildfire burning north of Pemberton is 35 per cent contained

The Xusum Creek fire, burning approximately 10 km northeast of D’Arcy and 35 km west of Lillooet, near Anderson Lake, was 35 per cent contained as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

The Xusum Creek fire, burning approximately 10 km northeast of D’Arcy and 35 km west of Lillooet, near Anderson Lake, was 35 per cent contained as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The out of control fire still measures an estimated 500 hectares.
On Wednesday, 112 personnel were on the ground fighting the blaze, along with heavy equipment and two helicopters that were water bucketing, a spokesperson for the Wildfire Service told The Chief.
Fighting of the blaze will be transitioning over to a BC Wildfire Service Incident Management Team, the spokesperson said.
Such teams take over for longer-burning fires.
The cause of the blaze, which was discovered on Wednesday, May 23, has not been determined.
An evacuation order in place for residents in the area.
