A woman has been charged with attempted murder after an incident on 12th Street in New Westminster Sunday.

Jessica Lynn Nelson was up for a bail hearing Wednesday morning, following an adjourned bail hearing Monday morning, for the single charge of attempted murder. The result of Wednesday's bail hearing was not immediately available.

In a statement Wednesday morning, New West Police Department Sgt. Jeff Scott said police responded to a reported stabbing on 12th Street, involving two people believed to be known to one another.

Scott did not say where on 12th Street the incident occurred, nor the time of the report.

“Early information was that it was a dispute, possibly about drugs and money, that resulted in a physical altercation,” Scott said, adding that the suspect fled the scene but was shortly thereafter located and arrested by police.

The NWPD major crime unit and forensic identification section investigated, and recommendation for an attempted murder charge was forwarded to Crown counsel.

No one else was harmed, Scott said, adding that there is no further public safety concern.

Nelson's exact age was not immediately made available, but court records indicate a birth year of 1993. B.C. Court Services Online show no previous encounters with the provincial court system for Nelson.

Police did not state the condition of the victim.
