North Vancouver RCMP are trying to sniff out a suspect accused of stealing $1,600 in designer fragrances.
According to police, a man pocketed perfume at the Park & Tilford Shoppers Drug Mart on Sunday afternoon. The store’s manager later reviewed the surveillance tapes, which showed “selection, concealment and exit without paying,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.
Police are now circulating surveillance images in hopes someone recognize the man committing the rank-ourous act.
The suspect is described as a black male with a thin build, approximately six-foot-two, between 20 and 30 years of age. He was wearing a red touque, red zippered hoodie, and black jacket.
Fragrance filching is surprisingly common, De Jong said. With perfume retailing for upwards of $100 per bottle, thieves typically try to unload their stolen goods online at a discount.
“If there is somebody out there of that description selling or giving away bottes of high-end fragrance, it should be a suspicious activity,” he said. “The nose knows.”
