To the editor:

Columnist, columnist! Spare that Lake! Mark Hasiuk likens Beaver Lake to a glorified pond, not worthy of being dredged and restored. If Beaver Lake was in the Interior of B.C., one of many lakes, I would support letting nature take its course, and returning the lake to forest. But Beaver Lake is different-if only because it is rare habitat to have so close to the city. Yes, we humans have tried to disturb the balance of nature by introducing water lilies and bullfrogs, but restoration is possible.

If Mark were to take a walk around Beaver Lake in the spring or summer, just before dusk, and see and hear the variety of birds and plants, especially the barred owl hooting "whocooks-for-you," he may become a convert.

Restoration is more than worth it.
