This headline is misleading. The site known as the great Marpole midden extended from the vicinity of Angus Street and Marine Drive to well east of the Fraser Arms lot and from the shore of the Fraser River to well beyond where Granville Street passes the Fraser Arms lot. While there certainly were burials in the area, the site comprised much more than a burial ground. It was the locale of a substantial village. The size of the midden provides a clue as to the size of the village since it would have been the main location for the disposal of detritus and only peripheral to the village itself.
