Re: Cartoon, Oct. 3.

While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's persona can be grating, he is not the root cause of failed Middle East peace initiatives as Geoff Olson's Oct. 3 cartoon suggests. The despicable acts of terror against their own citizens by both Syria's and Iran's leaders have overflowed into the region.

On almost a daily basis, Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadine-jad spews his bellicose anti-Semitic rhetoric from both ends while actively pursuing questionable nuclear objectives. As Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird has indicated, the UN is deteriorating into a callow and dysfunctional club of hand wringers while utterly failing to bring these despots to account. Blunt as his message may be, Mr. Netanyahu has little choice but to let the world know that if provoked, Israel will take whatever measures are required to defend its citizens. Before putting flow pen to paper, Mr. Olson would be prudent to apprise himself of the facts.
