There’s no arguing that women go to huge lengths for beauty. I’ve never been a huge fan of the term “no pain no gain” when it comes to beauty regimes. Don’t get me wrong, I drink a large cup of green juice everyday and make sure that I get active at least twice a week which is the kind of investment that your body and skin will thank you for. For me, painful beauty regimes include more than 30 minutes applying makeup in the morning, botox (I’ve never tried it but needles give me the creeps) and waxing.

Getting rid of unsightly body hair somewhere is a must for any girl (and some guys). Years ago, when my friend introduced me to threading, I was less than enthusiastic about it. To my surprise, it was less painful for me than waxing and the re-growth of hair was much slower. I converted and haven’t looked back since.

Kiran DarredIt was only appropriate that upon Blink Brow Bar’s one-year anniversary and their collaboration with Beauty Night Society that I ask expert threader Kiran Darred (pictured on left) some hair raising questions about threading.

1. How does threading work?

A length of 100 percent cotton thread is rolled back and forth along the brow line and this precisely targets single hairs. The twisting action of the thread traps the hairs and pulls them out whole from the root and this allows for a natural shape and beautiful definition.

2. What is the difference between threading and waxing? Benefits of threading?

Threading is an ancient Indian method of hair removal that’s a great alternative to waxing-especially for those desiring a more natural and defined shape. Threading is very accurate and can be done in as little as 20 minutes. It’s a better option for sensitive skin and has long lasting effects of up to 3 weeks.

4. How do you choose the eyebrow shape for a person's face shape?

There are 6 basic face shapes we judge brow shape from:

1. An oval face accommodates a variety of brow shapes including round arch, long brow, thin brow or thick brow.

2. A long face should have thick and flat brows to make face appear more oval.

3. A heart shape should have soft, round brows to soften the pointed chin.

4. A round face needs a very high arch with short tail to give it a slimmer appearance.

5. A square face looks best with an angled brow that has a peak and then long tail. This takes attention away from a square jaw line.

6. A diamond face needs an angled brow with round peak. This will narrow the appearance of a diamond shaped face.

5. How do you care for your brows? Top myths or don't s with brows.

Well, we strongly recommend that you have a professional do your eyebrows as they can determine what looks best for your face. If you are an emergency and have to do your brows at home we suggest the following tips:

- Do use brow make up to fill in brows and for a fuller appearance.

- Don't pluck your brows if possible. It rips out the hair follicle and can lead to permanent damage and unsightly re-growth.

- If you NEED to pluck, don't over do it. Only remove stray hairs and wait to do any serious shaping till you can get a professional to thread them for you.

Tell us some trends in Eyebrows:

Thick, long and arched is what I get the most requests for. The trend used to be for very thin eyebrows but that has changed and people want a fuller look. Very thick brows don't suit everybody's face-- so when we get requests for this, we always work with clients to achieve the look they want while taking their facial features into consideration. Sometimes we have to modify where the arch is or the thickness, but we make sure they are pleased with the result.

6. Is it true the hair that grows back after threading is finer?

Yes, after time the hair that grows back will become finer because with threading, we are not squeezing or irritating the root or follicles.

7. Is there anyone that threading doesn't work for?

Basically, anyone who has hair can get their eyebrows threaded. It really is for everyone and anyone, especially those with skin sensitivities.

8. Is there any maintenance work between threading appointments that ensure the longest lasting effect?

There really is no hard-and-fast rule to maintaining between threading appointments, which should be every 3 to 4 weeks. However, if you're looking to keep a clean brow in between, you can pluck stray hairs that aren't close to the hair line.

9. Can threading be done on any other parts of the body?

Threading can be done on parts of the body like your arms and legs and face.
