Every summer, K&K eagerly awaits forest fire season and the subsequent onslaught of media coverage that it — wait for it — ignites. Adding to our anticipation has been the sepia-toned skies and End of Days vibe cloaking the city in hickory smoked eeriness these past few days.

Unfortunately, our thirst for smoke-related puns and print-induced terror has not been quenched by the measured approach of Vancouver’s normally alarmist daily newspapers.

To the best of our knowledge, no one has taken the gift nature has given them and ran with the awesome headline “Hazy shade of summer,” which is just embarrassing.

Same goes for “Hazy from the heat,” “Hell ‘n haze,” “When smoke gets in your eyes” and “Is Vancouver at risk of becoming human kindling for the death infernos that rage all around us?”

Such a wasted opportunity.
