North Vancouver RCMP are looking to speak with the individuals involved in a filmed altercation which appears to show a male security guard apparently spitting on and hitting a teenage girl.

Police received a call from an employee at the McDonald’s adjacent to Lynn Valley Centre on Thursday evening with information about an alleged assault which took place earlier that day involving three females and a security guard that works at the McDonald’s, according to North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Sgt. Peter DeVries.

A video of the altercation made its rounds on social media soon after and police were made aware of the video on Friday, said DeVries.

Police are currently looking to identify the source of the video and are asking the other unidentified individuals to contact them.

“If you do have video footage, if you’re filming with your mobile, and you capture some sort of crime, please do not first upload it to social media. Please come forward to the police and allow us to use that as evidence to conduct an investigation,” said DeVries.

It’s not clear from the video what happened prior to the altercation occurring. No charges have been recommended by police at this point, and RCMP have so far been unsuccessful in their efforts to locate the three females, according to DeVries.

“We would prefer in a case like this not to go first to social media,” he said. “Obviously it’s a serious incident and it involves youths and anytime those two things go together we’d like to know that people feel that they can come to us.”

Police are asking that anybody who may have witnessed the altercation, or who has evidence, such as video evidence, to come forward and contact them at 604-985-1311.
