How to get rid of blackheads

The harshness of cold weather means we have to pay special attention to how we are treating our skin. While most people tend to sway from exfoliating skin during winter in fear that it will irritate dry skin, it’s quite the opposite. Exfoliating is great for getting rid of dead skin cells that can hold in oils that clog our pores. The key is to let your shower steam a bit to moisturize and open your pores before exfoliating. It’s also important to choose an exfoliant that has a moisturizing element to it.

Blackheads are caused by a clog in the opening of hair follicles in the skin. A change in hormones, diet and excessive smoking are also contributing factors of blackheads. The most common way to treat blackheads is using products that contain benzoyl peroxide which breaks apart the wax plug. However, if you’re into an organic approach whether it’s a lifestyle choice or sensitive skin, here are a few products to try:

Dark angel

Dark Angels Face Mask from LUSH: This scrub contains charcoal, cleansing rhassoul mud and cold pressed avocado oil. I use this about twice a week and a small amount mixed with wet hands will do the trick. If you wear makeup daily, this is gentle enough to use every 2 days or so. Avocado has a moisturizing component so you won’t have to worry about using this on dry skin. Charcoal absorbs 100-200 times its weight which makes it a great natural ingredient for deep skin purification.

Tata Harper

Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence from Beauty Mark: Much like a toner, this product helps refresh and minimize pores post exfoliation. You can put moisturizer and makeup over this product.

Magical Moringa

Magical Moringa from LUSH: I use this moisturizer daily and it’s perfect for post exfoliation. The mix of Argan oil, Limonene and organic rose hip oil literally works like magic. Since I tend to have oily skin, this moisturizer goes on to provide a matte look for your skin.

Imoerialis

Imperialis facial moisturizer from LUSH : This is perfect for the skin that can’t make up its mind. The formula which consists of lavender, orange and tiger lilies help balance the skin. This is great as a preventative measure for blackheads.

The best part about these products?  It’s cruelty free, organic and free of preservatives and parabens.
