One of the top questions people ask when a marriage ends is what happened and where it did all go wrong. Divorce rates have actually stayed fairly steady in Canada within the last few years. CBC reports that approximately 4 out of 10 marriages in Canada end in divorce. While financial problems usually rank within the top five reasons why most people divorce, there may actually be other reasons why most people decide to end their marriages.

In 2003, The Journal of Family Issues published a study looking at people’s reason for divorce. 200 people participated in the study and researchers found some interesting result. Take a look below at the top reasons people reported:

Interestingly, women report more often that they divorced their partner because of infidelity, drinking or drug use and physical or mental abuse. Men report more often that they divorce because of personality problems, lack of communication and loss of love. Financial problems ranked 13th on the list but an even scarier thing is 9.1% of males reported they don’t know why they got divorced while no females reported that.
