Brisbane direct

Vancouverites looking for a new destination in 2016, should consider Brisbane, Australia, situated between Queensland’s Sunshine and Gold coasts, particularly now that Air Canada is launching daily non-stop flights from YVR beginning June 17.

This urban city has grown into a must-visit destination when travelling Down Under and features Australia’s only inner-city beach. Brisbane’s cultural offerings include a vibrant laneway scene, where restaurants, shops and public art have emerged diverting visitors from the main roads to back alleys. The South Bank Cultural District, ideal for art lovers, is home to Australia’s largest modern and contemporary art gallery. These are just some of the reasons Brisbane is considered Australia’s hippest city.

B.C. Distilled

Canada’s premier craft and micro-distillery festival is back for the third time, this year featuring 27 B.C.-based artisan distilleries and offering participants an opportunity to sample locally-made gin, whiskey, liqueurs, vodka and more.

The events main tasting takes place March 26 at the Croatian Cultural Centre from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The festival itself begins March 25 with a whiskey tasting preview. Meanwhile, foodies can taste and learn the art of pairing cocktails with canapes while the Legacy Liquor Pop up Shop will be on hand selling more than 100 products from participating distilleries. B.C. Distilled is an invitation to imbibe responsibly with proceeds dedicated to Pacific Assistance Dogs Society, a non-profit organization that helps pair assistance dogs with clients living with physical disabilities other than blindness.
