What to wear and where to brunch this weekend

Weekend style guide

One of my favourite things to do on the weekend is brunching. It’s also a great time to catch up with friends and family over a waffle (or two). While I wouldn’t recommend going to brunch looking like you just got out of bed, the dress code for brunch is also fairly relaxed. If you’re in a hurry, don’t fuss too much and throw on a t-shirt and jeans. Complete the look with a duster jacket or long coat. The formula for brunching is fairly simple: keep it two thirds casual and one third chic. If you’re heading somewhere fancy for brunch, you can even pair a t-shirt with a fringe skirt. As for footwear, I like to be in flats for the weekend since I usually like to walk off my brunch. However, I think we can all agree that a good pair of heels can really elevate a look. The perfect go to in between footwear is a good pair of loafers. You can put a spin on casual and chic simultaneously with the right kind of loafers.

Brunch destination to try

My current brunch destination to try is the YEW Restaurant at the Four Season’s. You can count

on a great atmosphere and great eats. They recently launched their fall brunch menu which includes a build your own caesar bar, liege waffles and the most satisfying grilled cheese sandwich with soup. As a starter, I recommend their house made donuts.

Must try: The “weekend Rennie” grilled cheese sandwich (Aged Farmhouse Cheddar, Prosciutto Cotto, Fried Egg, Heirloom Tomato Soup). This dish was named after developer Bob Rennie who frequently requested grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch.

Light fare: Golden Potato Gnocchi (Cashew Cream, Ricotta Cheese, Mushrooms, Quinoa + Hemp Heart Crumble, Fried Egg). Fall comfort food at its best, the potato gnocchi has rich fall flavours with a healthy twist.

To start: Dungeness crab in a jar (Buttered Brioche. Tomato Jam). Any seafood lover can appreciate the beauty of crab in jar because why wouldn’t you?
