Thousands of Vancouver elementary school students will run a lap around Trout Lake in the annual cross-country district championship tomorrow.
A day-long competition of adorable well-managed chaos, the meet is an elementary school tradition organized by volunteers and teachers, some who set the pace while wearing rabbit ears and face-paint. Racers from Grades 1 through 7 compete.
The races begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 at Trout Lake.
In preparation for the final race of the season tomorrow, schools competed in smaller events known as mini-meets. Organized into six zones, the young athletes ran in as many as four races through September and October at parks across the city.
Last week, seven schools in competed in a mini-meet at Douglas Park.
