Vancouver sailors came out on top during the 29er North American Championships regatta, which was held in Squamish last week.

Third time was yet another charm for Eric Lyall and Andrew Moreno, who are both from the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. This the third victory at the North American Championships in almost as many years, as they’d previously won in 2016 and 2018.

The top female sailors were also from the same club. Georgia Phillips and Hanna Smith of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club took the win in that division.

This competition featured 18 boats with 36 of sailors from Canada and the United States, including eight US and Canadian National Team sailors.

The 29er is a 4.3-metre high performance skiff for two-person crews and raced in national, international, and world youth championships.

Just before the competition, there was also a Youth Olympic Training Seminar, which allowed athletes to hone their skills.

The events were hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, with help from the West Vancouver and Squamish Yacht Clubs.
