Delta police remain on scene Wednesday night investigating a stabbing outside Immaculate Conception, a private school in North Delta.

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 3:05 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

“An off-duty Delta police officer was at Immaculate Conception and witnessed an assault occurring between a man and a woman in front of the school,” said DPD public affairs coordinator Cris Leykauf in a news release. “He intervened, and during the altercation the woman and the officer were stabbed.”

Leykauf said a suspect is currently in police custody, however the scene remains very active. No children are believed to have been involved in the incident.

“We are asking parents who have not yet been able to get their children to pick them up at 88th and 120th at the Desi Junction parking lot,” said Leykauf.

Parent Ron Calliou was on his way into the school to pick up his daughter when he saw the incident unfold.

"The entire incident happened as I was walking in," Calliou told the Optimist. "I saw a gentleman being handcuffed. It looked like there was one to two people on the ground, but I don't know what their status is. When I walked in, we were told that everyone had to get inside. That's when I thought there are probably parents that didn't know what was going on, so I posted a few pictures on my Twitter feed and let them know what I knew."

Calliou said he noticed quite a bit of blood on the gentleman who was handcuffed.

"I don't know whether that was his blood or someone else's," he said. "All the children that were still in the school were all accounted for and were all safe."

Police say more information will be released when it becomes available.
