Two people have been taken to hospital after a car struck a hydro pole on No. 6 Road in the early hours of Monday.
At about 12:30 a.m. the vehicle, a Honda sedan, appears to have lost control on No. 6 Road, between Westminster Highway and Blundell Road, struck the pole and then rolled over into a nearby ditch.
Firefighters had to extricate the victims and there are reports that at least one of them received CPR before being taken to hospital.
Police say the driver, a 21-year old female from Surrey and the passenger, sustained critical injuries, while her passenger, a 22-year old female, also from Surrey, sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Alcohol and speed, say police, are considered factors in this collision.
Power outages were also reported throughout the area as power lines were visibly detached.
A spokesperson for the BC Ambulance Service said the first ambulance was on the scene within two minutes and that four ambulances and paramedic crews responded to the accident.
"Two patients were transported to hospital, one (was) in serious condition and one in critical condition," added the spokesperson.
That section of No. 6 Road was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
The Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) is investigating along with the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).
