Score another one for the City of North Vancouver’s revived waterfront district, as the Shipyards has been selected as one of the venues for the popular Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour next spring.

The event will run March 14-15, 2020 on a weekend that will include live entertainment, hockey-themed activities, NHL alumni and a live outdoor viewing party at the Shipyards of a March 15 game between the Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks. Ron MacLean and Tara Slone will be in town hosting a live televised broadcast on Sportsnet from the waterfront.

“The City is delighted to host Rogers Hometown Hockey, and proud that we’ve been selected as an ideal community for this celebration of community spirit,” stated Mayor Linda Buchanan in a release. “This summer we celebrated the grand opening of Shipyard Commons at our waterfront, and this winter we unveil our outdoor waterfront skating rink. The opportunity to showcase our waterfront, home town spirit, hockey fever and our special community to the rest of the country is very exciting.”

Now in its sixth year, Rogers Hometown Hockey will make 25 stops across the country during the 2019-2020 NHL season.

“Hockey brings Canadians together from coast-to-coast. It allows us to imagine new possibilities and share the stories that unite the country,” said MacLean in a release.

“It has been a privilege to tell Canada’s hockey stories over the past five seasons and we are grateful for the chance to hit the road for season six; seeing old friends and meeting new ones, and getting to the heart of this country’s insatiable passion for hockey,” added Slone.

The City of North Vancouver’s new Shipyards Commons includes space for an outdoor ice rink, which is scheduled to be open for skating in mid-November of this year.
