Hello my name is Colin Shandler and I’m standing for the people of Vancouver as an independent candidate for Mayor to return the governance of Vancouver back to its citizens.
The common denominator in all the issues I take with city hall is that they (the mayor) aren’t listening to the collective voice of the city. They try to placate us with line-toeing big media and treat us like we are not aware or don’t need to be respected.
I have an intense corporate management background and I am used to high pressure interactions on a daily basis. Once I’d started talking to leadership about my personal issues, it was natural to start asking some bigger questions that they wouldn’t—or couldn’t—answer. This caught my attention and I have been compelled to stand. I offer a simple results- based platform that will ensure we have a strong foundation for the population’s prosperity to grow while addressing the well-known issues we face.
My work experience and life lessons started at an early age. At one point I was a statistic, however I endeavored to overcome the challenges & contribute. I have 19 yrs experience as an executive with 3 national, and 2 regional brands. For the last 6 yrs I have been self-employed as an entrepreneur and restaurateur. I am proud to say that we started the business / brand with 2 employees, and now we are up a staff of 15 in this tough market. I was raised by the corporate world and mentored to learn the finer details: Safety, Executive Leadership, marketing, market research, personnel development & retention, loss prevention, financial budgets, yields and to take full responsibility for the people I lead.

I’m one of the few candidates who believes in the public and their ability to make informed decisions and express themselves through their vote. I want to encourage Vancouverites to do their research and make informed choices, because the current leadership is banking that we won’t. My platform isn’t one where I promise to fix all the business as usual issues, because I can’t. We will address them as a team of councilors. What I do promise is to restore democracy to this city by including everyone in the conversation.
A few things that make me smile: I’m an avid trail runner, Co-parent of a Siberian husky, 9 years earning sobriety & have had the pleasure of sharing my neighbourhood space with artists, writers, non-profits, local musicians, teachers, students, Alcoholics Anonymous, various support groups and you.
