George Affleck: NPA

Candidate: Vancouver City Council
George Affleck
George Affleck.

George Affleck was elected to Vancouver City Council in 2011 and seeks a second term as Councillor in the November municipal election.

In his first term, George pushed for budget transparency and fiscal restraint at City Hall. He highlighted the fact that detailed, line-by-line budgets are not being made publicly available. He also successfully introduced numerous motions including: the expansion of craft beer tasting rooms, the undue risks the city was taking investing in private-sector, publicly traded companies, the precarious future of leasehold property on South False Creek and the creation of a permanent home for the Dragon Boats.

Affleck’s commitment to stand up for the interests of Vancouver residents, taxpayers and businesses is why he is seeking re-election to Council.

Before entering civic politics, Affleck worked closely with local community groups. He chaired the False Creek Elementary School Parent Advisory Committee, the Vancouver International Comedy Festival and the Cooperative Auto Network (now Modo), and served as a director of the Vancouver International Children’s Festival.

As a local entrepreneur, Affleck founded and remains President of Vancouver-based marketing firm, Curve Communications. He is a published author and, before launching his business, worked as a journalist at the CBC.

He lives with his family in downtown Vancouver.
