Melissa De Genova: NPA

Melissa De Genova has been a Park Board Commissioner since 2011, working to improve the city’s parks and recreation services for its residents.

She is a candidate for City Council in the November municipal election.

De Genova works in real-estate development and has also worked for non-profit organizations. In her current role as the Director of Development for the Vancouver Resource Society, she works to acquire and secure accessible housing for persons with disabilities. She also owns a marketing and event production company.

De Genova is a Board Member and Fundraising Chair for Honour House, a refuge for Canadian Forces and emergency personnel and their families to stay for free while they receive medical care in Metro Vancouver. She has volunteered with organizations including Odd Squad Productions and the Salvation Army’s “Hope in the Inner City” Gala in the Downtown Eastside.

As a Park Board Commissioner, De Genova has worked with the Killarney neighbourhood to secure funding for a seniors centre in Southeast Vancouver and has advocated for community centres and associations.

De Genova holds a political science degree from Simon Fraser University and has worked on numerous political campaigns at the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government in communications and senior management roles.

De Genova lives in East Vancouver with her husband, a police officer. She is the daughter of five-term Park Board Commissioner Allan De Genova.
