Mischa Oak: Green Party of Vancouver

Candidate: Vancouver School Board
Mischa Oak
Mischa Oak.

Mischa Oak is a current Vancouver teacher who knows our schools well. As an on-call teacher with the Vancouver School Board since 2008, he has taught in almost every school in the city. He understands the effects of school underfunding first-hand. Oak believes we need a working teacher like him on our school board to represent the needs of today’s classrooms and students.

Mischa Oak will stand up for fairly funding schools and will work to protect programs for our most vulnerable students. His years teaching thousands of students and extensive community involvement motivates him to advocate for children living in poverty, new Canadians, English language learners, students with special needs, First Nations students, and LGBTQ students and families.

Mischa Oak is a long-time community volunteer and organizer. He served on the Board of Directors for Vancouver Pride and as Volunteer Coordinator for the Pride Parade in 2012, managing 800 volunteers. Oak was also president of the Vancouver Centre NDP.

Mischa Oak believes our school board can be better managed to meet the needs of all students. He is proud to run with the Green Party, so he can continue to focus on environmental and financial sustainability for our schools.

Oak lives in Mount Pleasant with his partner. He was born and raised in Vancouver and has a degree in Commerce from Queen’s University. Mischa Oak worked successfully in marketing before becoming a teacher. His business experience will help bring balanced budgets, new sources of funding and good use of our resources.
