Tim Louis: COPE

Tim Louis has a proven commitment to progressive politics, social justice causes, and involvement in the community. Tim served as a Park Board Commissioner from 1990-1996 and COPE City Councillor from 1999-2005. As Councilor, Tim spearheaded the creation of the City’s Ethical Purchasing Policy and the creation of the Vancouver Food Policy Council. He also chaired the Finance Committee, where he always aimed to balance financial responsibilities with social justice.

Tim also has a longstanding record of community activism as co-founder of HandiDart and the HandiDart Riders Alliance, co-founder of Public Interest Advocacy Centre, and co-founder of Access Housing Co-op.

He also served on City Council from 1999-2005. Tim knows from experience that City Hall works best when it listens to the residents of this city and their needs. He is committed to taking back City Hall from the pockets of real estate developers and ending the developer monopoly to build affordable and social housing for all.

In addition to his commitment to and actions in support of progressive politics in Vancouver, Tim has a strong interest in social development in Latin America and is a strong supporter of progressive Latin American solidarity groups in Vancouver.

Today Tim practices law full-time and is heavily involved in politics and community activism. He lives in Kitsilano with his longtime partner, Penny.
