Anecdotal reports of lineups at polling stations across the city have been circulating today on social media as Vancouverites go to the polls in the civic election.

If accurate, the lineups could be an indication voter turnout will exceed the 35 per cent turnout in 2011. The City of Vancouver's elections office has set a goal of a 40 per cent turnout in what in recent weeks was seen as a tighter than expected race for control of the city.

Voters will elect a mayor, 10 councillors, seven park board commissioners and nine school board trustees.
Polls close at 8 p.m.

The Courier will have complete election results as they unfold tonight.
